Today hypnotherapy is a recognised tool in medicine and psychology to gain access to and make changes to our unconscious mind. It involves a collaboration between therapist and client to agree on the goal for the session and includes guided relaxation, guided visualisation and suggestion to achieve the required outcome.

The state of relaxation, often referred to as trance, is a natural state akin to the feeling just before we fall asleep or when waking being fully awake, when we are relaxed, comfortable and at ease. When we are in this state we could easily get up if required. In this state we have more access to and make changes in the unconscious mind which is the driver behind our behaviour, beliefs and actions.

Changes in relation to the issue can be rapid and recognised by the client as a shift in perception, thinking and in the body. Psycho-education and simple, practical exercises may also be included in the session and as a resource to be used later. Some issues require only one or two sessions for lasting change.
